The Multistage Fitness Test (MSFT)

ProHealth Analytics includes a number of templates for various fitness tests. One of these is for the Multistage Fitness Test (MSFT) also known as the bleep test.

Using the formulas feature, our templates automatically calculate for the VO2max result along side a simplistic performance metric to help define rules and links within the platform.

1. msft_vo2max_result

The msft_vo2max_result formula in our software is based on the Ramsbottom equation, which is widely recognized in sports science for estimating VO2 max from MSFT results. The formula is:

The Ramsbottom equation has been validated and widely adopted due to its accuracy and reliability in estimating VO2 max from MSFT results. It is extensively documented in sports science literature and is commonly used in both athletic and occupational health settings

2. msft_performance_result

The msft_performance_result is a custom-developed formula within our software that translates an individual's performance in the MSFT into a single, unified metric. This metric is designed to represent both the level and the number of shuttles completed, formatted as a single number, such as 808 (which would represent level 8, shuttle 8).

Simplified Performance Metric: The msft_performance_result simplifies the interpretation of MSFT results by combining the level and shuttle into a single number. This metric is particularly useful for quickly determining pass/fail criteria in settings such as fire and rescue services.

Example: For a performance of level 8, shuttle 8, the msft_performance_result would be 808.

This custom metric was developed based on operational needs identified in consultation with fire and rescue services. It is designed to streamline the decision-making process by providing a straightforward metric for assessing fitness levels. The development of this metric is informed by practical applications within fire services, as described in industry-standard references like the FireFit report
